This podcast describes the method for accounting for overhead in a Job Order System. In a Job Order System actual overhead costs are not tracked to jobs individually. This podcast teaches you how overhead is allocated using a predetermined rate and how to account for differences between applied and actual overhead amounts. Another issue covered is problems with using a predetermined rate and how it can be adjusted to be more accurate. All this is taught in a step by step example of overhead allocation.

This podcast was an informative introduction to Job Order Costing. The speaker went through the steps of the process quite thoroughly. One of the best aspects of this podcast was the consistent use of an example. The listener could follow this example from beginning to end, both by listening and watching the slides. The arrows and journal entries made following the problem easier as well. One problem, likely attributable to the software, was that the slides were often fuzzy and difficult to read. In addition, the speaker occasionally spoke too quickly, which made understanding the topic more difficult. Overall, this podcast had many positive aspects and was a good introduction to Job Order Costing.

Jimmy’s Podcast on Job Order Costing Overhead Allocation had me on the edge of my seat throughout. I can’t believe how something so seemingly boring could turn out to be so thrilling. In all seriousness, not the world’s most exciting topic, but I thought James did an excellent job relaying the information. Additionally, the manner in which he relayed his info was very effective in that one was able to follow along with examples in real time as he spoke. While the slides may have been a bit blurred at times, I had no trouble reading them and enjoyed the musical transition between sections. Delivery and clarity were on point as well. Jim’s ability to transfer knowledge of Overhead Allocation in layman’s terms is superb, which is why I give it 4 stars.
