IFRS versus US GAAP

AWARD WINNER - Special Topic Category
Over the past few years, a growing number of jurisdictions require public companies to use IFRS rather than US GAAP. In today’s increasingly international business environment, American CPAs are frequently encountering IFRS as they assist in cross-border transactions. Fortunately, the standard setters for U.S. GAAP and IFRS are engaged in a convergence process designed to make the two sets of standards compatible. Increasingly, businesses see a significant portion of their future growth in the international arena and are looking for CPAs who can help enhance that growth. This podcast will provide you an insight into some of the major differences between the two accounting systems and the future of this most probable convergence.

This podcast was very well done. The topic is clearly pertinent, and Suhani presents information that will truly help listeners understand the fundamentals of IFRS. The podcast’s organization may be credited for part of this success; by beginning with an overview of IFRS, highlighting a few vital difference between IFRS and US GAAP, and concluding with her own opinion of a convergence, Suhani ensures that listeners do not become confused or overwhelmed. Repetition also eliminates these feelings. Additionally, her voice remains even and carefully paced throughout the entire presentation. The PowerPoint slides and other images enhance this podcast, too. Unfortunately, a few images became indiscernible when integrated into the podcast. All in all, this is a fantastic podcast that offers listeners the opportunity to take in a great deal of information in a short period of time!

This was a fantastic podcast. The introduction clearly laid out what was going to be discussed, the content was very informative and relevant to our class, and her own opinion was a strong conclusion. Her slides, outside reading, and own thoughts on the topic displayed her in depth understanding and mastering of the material. The music kept it up beat as well as relaxing. I went into this podcast knowing very little on the topic and now feel as though I could explain it to someone else after watching it. She was able to keep a steady and professional tone of voice throughout the podcast which really added to the presentation. The only potential weakness was that a few of the images were a bit blurred; however, this did not take away from it. This podcast was a pleasure to watch.
