CPA Exam Info and Requirements in Virginia

For my Special Topic Podcast I chose to examine the process for becoming a CPA with special attention to Virginia’s requirements. Within the Podcast, I will include information about the test (sections, format, etc.), credit hour requirements for VA and scoring/pass rate information. In conclusion I will discuss the surge in demand for accountants and some of the recruiting tactics employed by accounting firms today, especially in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. By examining this topic, I hope to convey the possibilities available to those interested in majoring in Accounting and also to shed some light on the CPA exam for those interested in pursuing their CPA.

This podcast was a good explanation to the CPA requirements of Virginia and DC. The best part of this presentation was the pictures; however, the creator should have avoided using so many pictures, and the flashing blue screen was very distracting. The creator also had good citations and some excellent quotes from professionals in the industry. One other area for improvement is to speak slower so that the podcast is easier to understand. Lastly, the ending could have been improved instead of just cutting off at the end. Overall, this podcast covered the CPA requirements very thoroughly and used good information and quotations to convey the main point to the listener.

I thought this podcast gave a very thorough explanation of what the CPA exam entails. It is evident that the creator conducted an extensive amount of research from various sources to provide a complete picture of the necessary path to take to complete the CPA and the benefits that arise from this certification. I thought this podcast would be especially helpful to students in the business school deciding which career path to take because provides an in-depth explanation of the course and credit requirements, information on state requirements, and costs of taking the exam in Virginia. I believe the most beneficial part of the podcast is the commentary from executives in the Washington, D.C. area describing the need for accountants in D.C. and the benefits of passing the exam. I have one suggestion for improvement regarding the use of pictures. Although I found that they supplement the information well and at times were amusing, I thought they changed rather quickly and the random blue spaces could at times be distracting.
