Elissa’s podcast of the sub-prime mortgage rate crisis effectively engages the listener with a Grammy worthy soundtrack. Her explanation of the sub-prime mortgage rate was simple and understandable. She made the effects of the mortgage crisis on accounting evident and comprehendible. The presented slides were relevant to the issue and effectively enhanced Elissa’s’ discussion. Occasionally there were slides that were hard to read and one or two that were completely illegible. The rate of speech was at times slow but never took away from the quality of the podcast. Even with these mild problems the podcast was definitely effective in presenting the material which is why I give it 3.5 out of 4 stars.

This podcast gave an interesting depiction of the sub prime mortgage crisis from the standpoint of accountants. This issue has been plastered across newspapers and media for months now, but I found it interesting to learn how FASB’s standards are affecting those banks suffering from the sub prime mortgage crisis. Overall, I think the topic and information was useful and relevant to our class. However, I thought the music between the voice segments was somewhat distracting and unnecessary. Also, at times, the speaker’s voice was slow and drawn out, although I understand the need to speak clearly for the listener. If I could give any advice to the creator, I would suggest they use less of the instrumental pieces throughout the podcast and possibly only include them at the beginning and end, because the music bits scattered throughout took away from the informative podcast. It caused the listener to lose focus on what was being discussed. Overall, the podcast provided an interesting perspective on a national crisis.
